Some of my summer events

I hope you are having a nice beginning to your summer. I’ve been keeping quite busy in meetings and events within our district and around the state. I’m sending you this e-newsletter today because I wanted to give you a sense of what kinds of activities I’ve been engaged in since the legislative sessions ended earlier this year.

Though the Washington State Legislature is technically a part-time deliberative body, the activities in which state senators and representatives participate occur year-round. As you’ll see below, I’ve been very active and will continue to be so throughout the summer and fall.

  • May 15
    • Delivered a Legislative Report to the Lower Valley Republican Women’s Club.
  • May 16
    • Spoke to the Yakima Valley Council of Governments in Grandview.
  • May 19
    • Attended the 60th anniversary dinner for Filipino Hall in Yakima.
  • June 6
    • Tri-Cities Legislative Council’s 2012 legislative reception.

I attended this event along with Senators Mike Hewitt (16th District, Walla Walla), Jerome Delvin (8th District, Richland), and Mark Schoesler (9th District, Ritzville). The Tri-Cities Legislative Council represents the Tri-City Development Council, Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau, Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce, Pasco Chamber of Commerce, West Richland Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

    • Sunnyside Valley Irrigation District ceremony

Also on June 6th, I attended SVID’s ceremony to mark the completion of phase I of its conservation project. The project is the result of the Sunnyside Division Water Rights Settlement Agreement with the United Sates, the State of Washington and the Yakama Nation in 2003. In that agreement, Sunnyside agreed to participate in the Yakima River Basin Water Enhancement Program and the other parties agreed to support funding for it.

  • June 7
    • Participated in a military training exercise put on by the brave men and women of the Washington National Guard at the Yakima Training Center.
