Washington’s Senate Republicans met privately Wednesday afternoon to elect their leadership team – an event that occurs in legislative election years – and chose Sen. Jim Honeyford, R-Sunnyside, to continue serving as deputy floor leader.
“Obviously I’m honored that my colleagues think highly of me,” Honeyford said of his re-election. “I look forward to continuing to work in a bipartisan manner with all members of the Legislature for the good of the people of the state of Washington.”
The deputy floor leader is responsible for assisting the floor leader in his duties, as well as helping the floor leader and whip coordinate procedural votes with members. The floor leader orchestrates the caucus’s floor action, sits on the Senate Rules Committee and represents the caucus on procedural matters.
Honeyford has served as deputy floor leader since 2009.
