Unemployment rates rise in Washington

UnemploymentThe state Employment Services Department just released Washington’s monthly employment report and it showed that the state lost 1,100 jobs in August and the state unemployment rate increased from 8.5% to 8.6%. The national rate is 8.1%. As a reminder, the state’s employment peak was back in Feb. 2008 (2.976 million jobs).

In August 2012, four and a half years later, the state has 2.888 million jobs, some 88,000 less than in Feb. 2008. Clearly we are still struggling with the effects of the economic recession and it will likely be some time before we get back on our feetĀ
